Appearance: Height - average. Build - fairly athletic and muscular, but not outstandingly so. Skin - fair, tending towards golden. Eyes - dark grey and narrow. Hair - brownish-black, worn medium short, unparted and brushed back from his forehead, sticking out slightly in back, with darker streaks at the temples. Somewhat square-jawed, with a serious expression. Clothing - usually wears a loose yellow jacket with white trim, and a gold star pinned to the collar, marking him as a graduate of the prestigious school of dueling, Duel Academia. Beneath that he wears a hidden vest that contains his six decks, and under that, a green high-collared shirt.

Personality: Misawa conducts himself as the epitome of the proper intellectual. He has unfailingly good manners, though he’s been known to indulge in the occasional snide remark. Calm in any emergency, he remains cool and calculating, always keenly observing and analyzing the activity and people around him. He always gathers as much information as he can about any situation he may find himself in or any opponent he might be facing, rarely making impulsive decisions. He is talented at math, and in fact tends to amuse himself by writing out complex equations on whatever may be handy: cards, walls, baseball bats, even his lunch. He tends to keep to himself and rarely speaks unless he has something useful to say, giving the impression that he’s a bit unemotional, but that’s only until his true feelings bubble over, in which case he can get a bit dramatic. Underneath his cool intellectual act, he craves approval and places a high value on his friends.

Abilities/Weapons: Mathematical and theoretical skills, especially when it comes to physics and dimensional travel. General survival skills. Hands-on experience fighting monsters. He’s more of a thinker than a fighter, but he’s still physically tough and has been known to carry a staff for beating off the aforementioned monsters. Also a talented duelist, for what that’s worth. Juliet has been teaching him how to use a sword, but he isn't very good yet.

Weaknesses: Prone to being self-centered, and will grow jealous if he feels he is not getting the respect he deserves or that someone else is stealing his spotlight. Doesn’t always work well with others - once given a job, he will wear himself out trying to accomplish it on his own long past the point where it becomes obvious that he needs help. Also goes to mush over pretty girls, while simultaneously believing himself immune to their charms.

History: Enrolled in Duel Academia (the world’s foremost academy of dueling) after passing the entry exams with the highest score in his class. He enjoyed a stellar career for the first few months, until he began to be outshone by the more show-stopping duelists in his class. The final blow came when he was called upon to join a team of elite duelists to stop a group of thieves called the Seven Stars. He was undone by the third of the Seven Stars, a beautiful woman (actually a humanoid Duel Monster) named Taniya, who declared that she would marry him if he won. He was so dazzled by her looks and her sweet declarations of love for him that he lost track of what he was doing and made a foolish error, costing him the duel. Taniya rejected him for his weakness, leaving him heartbroken. While he eventually recovered his poise, he never quite forgot that he had been outsmarted and had allowed himself to be overcome by his emotions. He began to doubt himself, and his dueling performance suffered as a result. His status as the #1 duelist on campus was irreversibly destroyed.

Desperate to regain his lost respect, he eventually issued a challenge to a powerful duelist called Saioh, a psychic who had been bringing the entire school under his sway by brainwashing them into a cult called the Society of Light. The Society had been targeting powerful duelists, and Misawa was stung that they had overlooked him in favor of so many others, so he proposed that if he won the duel, Saioh should disband the Society and leave the island. However, Saioh persuaded him that even if he won, it would only mean that there would be no Society to join, and therefore, he would never be accepted by them. He was so desperate to be accepted by someone that he purposely lost the duel so that he could become part of the Society, abandoning his only remaining friends in the process.

However, the Society had no use for him, and he continued to be ignored. He eventually realized that what he needed was something between his previous “all is determined by logic” mentality and the blind spiritualism of the Society of Light, and left the Society to search for the middle ground. He eventually wound up becoming the student of the world-renowned professor of physics, Albert Zweinstein, and the two of them collaborated in studying alternate dimensions. An experiment gone wrong sent Misawa into another dimension, alone, with neither food nor weapons, in a monster-infested desert. He survived there for several months until his friends (sent there by a completely unrelated series of events) found him, and he was able to use his knowledge of interdimensional travel to aid them in returning home.

One member of their party, a boy named Johan, did not make it back, so even though Misawa calculated the odds of survival to be infinitely near zero, he still agreed to join the search party that went to retrieve him. While in the other world, he encountered Taniya again, and she agreed to lend her services to the group briefly as a guide.

Since the series isn’t over yet, for purposes of this RP, I am assuming that he remained at Duel Academia, graduated with high marks, and joined the Professional Dueling League. He is snatched from his home on the eve of his new career.
